Wet Room Tanking - Why waterproof to the ceiling?
Wet Room Tanking is critical, but often get overlooked on the walls. We regularly get asked " How far up the walls should we waterproof?"   Date: Wednesday 02 June, 2010
You should remember the basics, such as ALL GROUT IS POROUS, to a lesser or greater extent. This means LEAKS will occur through walls, as WATER PENETRATES through tiles & Grout. What can you do? 1) Use larger tiles on both floor & walls. The bigger the tile, the less space for water to seep through. 2) Seal shower & wet room walls with Waterproof tanking as high as you can afford. STEAM will penetrate through the walls, BEHIND the tiles. Thus, the you won't see the damage being caused. 3) Many tanking systems are only MOISTURE BARRIERS. This will STOP WATER LEAKS, but steam is different. 4) So make sure you have a full VAPOUR BARRIER, just like our AquaeGUARD.
